Liljander's Last Second Shot Lifts Falcons over No. 17 Warhawks

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team beat UW-Whitewater on a last second three point shot by Brynn Liljander to give them a 51-48 WIAC win.  The Falcons are now 2-0 in conference play.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Nine lead changes happened in the first half with the Falcons getting the first lead to start out the game.
  • The Warhawks responded with back to back shots to go up one. 
  • The Falcons then took their biggest lead of the first half when Brynn Liljander made back to back three-point shots to put the Falcons up four. 
  • The Warhawks went into the half time break with a two point advantage.
  • Liljander started out the second half with two free throws to tie the game up 21-21 and Taylor Karge made a shot to go up two. 
  • With 6:16 remaining in the third quarter, the Warhawks tied it back up 26-26 before going on a 13-6 run to finish the quarter.
  • The Falcons started the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run to go up two points only to be answered by a seven point run by the Warhawks.
  • The Falcons went on a 7-2 run that tied the game up 48-48 with 19 second remaining. 
  • With two seconds remaining on the clock, Liljander made a shot from downtown that secured a Falcon win. 
 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Brynn Liljander connected on three three-point shots including the last second game winning shot.  She scored 22 points on 7-19 shooting and was 5-5 from the line.  She added six rebounds.
  • Taylor Paulsurd scored eight points on 2-6 shooting and was 2-4 from the charity stripe.
  • Taylor Karge had six points on 3-15 shooting from the floor.  She also led the Falcons with nine rebounds.
  • As a team, the Falcons shot 29.5 percent from the floor on 18-61 shooting.  They hit six three-point shots and were 9-13 (69.2 percent) from the charity stripe.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Andrea Meinert was the leading scorer of the game with 23 points.  She was 7-14 from the floor and was 9-12 from the free throw line.  She also added five rebounds to her day. 
  • Olivia Freckman was the second leading scorer for the Warhawks.  She came off the bench for seven points.  She was 5-9 from the charity stripe and was the leading rebounder of the game with 14.
  • The Warhawks shot 14-53 (26.4 percent) from the floor and were 20-30 from the free throw line.  They were 0-11 from beyond the arc.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
With the win, the Falcons improve to 11-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference.  They travel to UW-Platteville Wednesday to take on the Pioneers
