Women's Basketball Remains Undefeated in WIAC Play

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team remains unbeaten in WIAC conference play as they defeated UW-Platteville on the road 79-45.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Pioneers took control of the game right away with an eleven point run putting themselves up by eight in the first five minutes. 
  • Crystal Pearson tied up 11-11 by hitting a three with 3:06 remaining in the quarter. 
  • The two teams traded the lead the remainder of the quarter with the Falcons edging the Pioneers by two at the finish of the first after Liljander hit a three with one second remaining.
  • The Falcons never lost control of the lead the remainder of the game. 
  • At the end of the first half the Falcons led 36-23.
  • In the third quarter, the Falcons scored 30 points while holding the Pioneers to only eight.   
  • The Pioneers outscored the Falcons in the fourth 14-13 but it was not enough.  h to come back

IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Brynn Liljander was the leading scorer of the night with 22 points.  She was 9-24 from the floor and 3-8 from beyond the arc.
  • Taylor Karge was the only other Falcon to have double digit points on the night.  She scored 11 points on 5-16 shooting.  She also added eight rebounds, four assists and a steal. 
  • Twenty seven points came from the bench with Anna Rollag having eight. 
  • From the floor, UWRF shot 32-79 (40.5 percent) and were 10-25 from beyond the arc.  They also converted 22 points off of turnovers.    

THE OPPOSITION
  • Miranda Meland came off the bench to lead the Pioneers offensively with eight points.  She was 2-4 from beyond the arc and 2-2 from the charity stripe. 
  • Three Pioneers had six points apiece and the bench accounted for 25 of their points.
  • The Pioneers shot 15-52 (28.8 percent) from the field and 11-17 (64.7 percent) at the line.  They connected on four shots beyond the arc. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons improve to 12-2 on the season and stay perfect in WIAC play.  They host UW-Oshkosh on Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. game in Page Arena.
