NORTHFIELD, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's volleyball team started out its 2017 season with a pair of wins at the St. Olaf Invite. In the first match, the Falcons beat Bethany Lutheran in three (25-21, 25-16, 25-15) and in the second they won in four (17-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-21) against the Pipers of Hamline.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST BETHANY LUTHERAN
- The Falcons took all three sets of the first match beating the Vikings (25-21, 25-16, 25-15).
- Offensively the Falcons hit .183 with 31 kills in 82 attempts.
- Amara Meyer led the Falcons with 8 kills and hit .313 in 16 attempts. She recorded one block and two aces.
- Karli Nielsen hit .308 with six kills in 13 attempts.
- Freshman setter Hailey Huseth had nine assists and was helped by Mallory Griffin with seven assists.
- Defensively Dakotah Poitra led the Falcons with 11 digs. Libero Hannah Robb recorded 10 digs.
- As a team the Falcons finished the match with twelve service aces.
THE OPPOSITION
- As a team the Vikings hit .023
- They were led by Alanna Menk who recorded four kills and Natasha Young who had six kills.
- Anna Nelson had a match high 22 digs.

WHAT HAPPENED
- After falling in the first set the Falcons came back and won the last three sets in a row winning the match in four (17-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-21)
- Overall the Falcons hit .130 compared the Pipers .097. and they had 40 kills in 123 attempts.
- Amara Meyer again led the offense with 11 kills. Overall she hit .259.
- Mallory Griffin hit .429 (8 kills, 14 TA) and Karli Nielsen had five kills in 11 total attacks.
- The Falcons recorded seven service aces.
- Defensively Hannah Robb had 21 digs and Dakotah Poitra recorded 12.
- Hailey Huseth recorded 17 assists.
THE OPPOSITION.
- The Piper recorded 48 total kills but were only able to hit .097.
- Cass Bittle led the team with 14 kills.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Falcons continue play at the St. Olaf Invite Saturday as they take on Carleton and Macalester.
