Women's Basketball Picks up Home Win Over Norse

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team maintained a twenty point lead into the second half to get a nonconference win over Luther College Saturday afternoon at Page Arena.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Taylor Karge scored the first layup of the game and gave the Falcons their first lead of the night.   
  • The Norse went on a 10-4 point run to give them the lead the majority of the first quarter before the Falcons finished it out with nine points to take the lead back at the end of the first quarter.
  • In the second quarter, the Falcons only allowed the Norse to 10 points while scoring 25 themselves.
  • Brynn Liljander had double digit points in the first half with eleven points on 3-5 shooting from downtown.  Taylor Karge had eight points on 4-8 shooting. 
  • The Falcons started the second half scoring 13 points in the first five minutes giving them their biggest lead of the night by 25. 
  • Battling back in the fourth quarter the Norse came back with a nine point run with back to back three pointers. 
  • The Norse rally was not enough as the Falcons solidified the twenty point win with seven points in the final three minutes of the game. 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Brynn Liljander had 17 points on the day from 7-12 shooting.  She was 3-5 from beyond the arc.  In the first half three of Liljander four shots were three pointers. 
  • Crystal Pearson scored 15 points off the bench on 6-8 shooting. She added six rebounds and three steals.
  • Taylor Karge accounted for ten points on 5-15 shooting.  She led the Falcons with eight rebounds.  She also had a pair of assists and five steals.
  • As a team, UWRF was 27-62 (43.5 percent) and shot 6-15 (40.0 percent) from beyond the arc. The Falcons were 8-10 at the line going 8-10 (80 percent).  

THE OPPOSITION
  • Claire Marburger had 19 points to lead Luther, she was 7-20 from the floor and 3-5 from the free throw line.   
  • Katie Waller had nine points and shot 2-5 from behind the arc.
  • The Norse shot 17-61 (27.9 percent) from the floor and were 9-15 60 percent) from the charity stripe.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons, who are now 5-2 on season host Concordia-Minnesota Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
