At the NCAA Indoor Championships, Lauryn Schutz and Ali Clifford both earned USTFCCCA Second Team All-America honors in the weight throw. During the outdoor season, Schutz added a second USTFCCCA Second Team All-America honor in the hammer throw after placing 15th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Under Berguis' guidance, Falcon throwers continued to excel on the conference and national stages, producing multiple NCAA qualifiers, All-America performances and top marks in program history.
At Concordia, Berguis led student-athletes to four individual throwing event titles at the MIAC Championships, eight All-Conference performances, and coached a pair national qualifiers.Â
A native of Rosemount, Minn., Berguis was a track & field athlete at North Dakota State University from 2012-16, where he finished his career ranked second in NDSU history in the outdoor shot put and sixth in the hammer throw. Berguis was a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic award winner, was the 2015 Summit League Indoor Conference Champion in the weight throw, and in 2016 was named the Summit League Outdoor Championships Field MVP after placing second in the hammer throw, third in the shot put, and fourth in the discus.
