Women's Basketball Falls at UW-Oshkosh in WIAC Tournament

Oshkosh, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team traveled to take on UW-Oshkosh in the first round of the WIAC Tournament on Tuesday night. After trailing big early, the Falcons' valiant comeback effort would fall just a little bit short as they fell to the Titans of UW-Oshkosh 64-51.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Titans began the game on an 8-0 run after a jumper found the bottom of the net by Emma Melotik.
  • The Falcons would get just their 4th point of the opening quarter after a layup by Crystal Pearson made the score 21-4 Titans.
  • The Falcons got another layup from Pearson at the end of the first quarter making the score 22-7 Titans heading into the second quarter.
  • The Titans opened up the second quarter on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 31-7 with 5:14 to play in the first half.
  • The Falcons settled into the game a bit after a Brianna Koop layup would be the last points of the first half. The Falcons trailed 38-17 at the halfway point.
  • The Falcons continued to chip away at the Titan lead after a Taylor Karge jumper got the Falcons within 18, trailing 41-23 with 6:30 to play in the third quarter.
  • The action would be back and fourth throughout the third quarter. A 3-point bomb from Brynn Liljander with just over a minute left in the quarter got the Falcons within 15 as they would trail 50-35 heading into the final quarter.
  • The Falcons continued to battle their way back into the game as they narrowed the Titan lead to 10 after Taylor Karge made a layup to make it 50-40 with 6:30 left in the game.
  • The Titans held strong down the stretch as they wouldn't let the Falcons get closer than an 8-point deficit. The Falcons fell to the Titans by a final of 64-51.

  • Taylor Karge was the leading scorer for the Falcons with 22 points. Karge was 10-18 from the floor and added 3 rebounds.
  • Crystal Pearson also added 11 points in the loss for the Falcons.
