Daniel Borash Wins Roy Griak Title

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls cross country teams had a record breaking day at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational Saturday morning.  Daniel Borash took the top honor in the men's race becoming the first male individual to win the race for the Falcons.
 
THE RUNDOWN
Final Score: Men: 3rd place, 95 Points; Women: 7th place, 184 Points
Location: Les Bolstad Golf Course, University of Minnesota
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Daniel Borash won the individual title becoming the first men's Falcon runner to do so in school history.  He recorded a time of 27:00.0
  • Following close behind Dan was Julian Manley in fourth place, his highest finish ever at the Griak.  He finished with a time of 27:37.1
  • Rounding out the scoring was Braydon Johnson in 13th place and a time of 28:51.3, Chase Arens in 38th with a time of 29:58.7, and Reid Schwechler in 39th with a time of 29:26.4. 
  • The men's team had the schools highest finish in school history with a third place finish scoring 95 points. 
  • The Falcon women also had an excellent meet with their first top 20 finisher since 2013, with Nicole Jurik taking 20th place with a time of 25:20.1. 
  • Linsey Tolkkinen and Abby Fouts came in right behind Jurek in 23rd and 26th place.  Both had their best finish ever with times of 25:25.5 and 25:36.0 respectively.
  • Rounding out the scoring were Emily Klatt with a great improvement from last year in 46th with a time of 26:33.1 and Kalyn Suhorepetz in 67th with a time of 27:47.3.
  • The women improved on their finish from a year ago by taking 7th overall with 184 points.
 
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • UW-Oshkosh won both the mens and the women's race.  The won the mens race with 37 points and four runners who finished in the top ten.  The women won with 69 points total.  Three of their runners finished in the top ten.
  • Maya Weigel of Pomona-Pitzer won the women's race with a time of 23:11.9.
 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Next up, the Falcons will run at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational Friday September 30th.  Race will begin at 4:15 with the women running first followed by the men.  UW-Eau Claire is the defending men's national champions and are currently ranked fourth in the men's standings
