Falcons Battle in Day Two of Luther Dome Tournament

Game 1 Vs: Carleton College
 
The UW-River Falls Falcons fell 7-3 in 7 innings to Carleton College on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Knights opened the game by scoring 3 runs in the top of the first inning.
 
Carleton pushed across 2 more runs in the top of the 4th inning to push the score to 5-0.
 
The Falcons came soaring back in the bottom of the 4th when Katie Thompson and Shannan Borchardt scored to make the game 5-2.
 
However, the Knights were too much for the Falcons to handle as they scored another 2 runs in the top of the 7th to push the game to a 7-2 lead in favor of Carleton.
 
The Falcons were able to push across a final lone run in the bottom of the 7th inning when Katie Thompson doubled in Aiyana Ledwein to push the score to 7-3.
 
Toeing the rubber for River Falls was Emma Steiner. She went 4 innings on the day and gave up 5 runs on 3 hits. Michelle LaCasse replaced Steiner in the 5th inning. Lacasse went 3 innings in full and struck out 3 batters while giving up 2 runs on 1 hit.
 
Game 2 Vs: Gustavus Adolphus College
 
The Falcons fell to Gustavus Adolphus in 7 innings on Sunday night by a score of 11-6.
 
In what was a tough first inning for Michelle LaCasse, the Gustavus Adolphus Gusties scored 7 runs on 5 hits.
 
The Falcons got on the board in the top of the 2nd inning when Maddie Studnicka got caught stealing which allowed Shannan Borchardt to score for the Falcons.
 
The Gusties scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to make the score 11-1 in favor of the Gusties.
 

Poor defense from Gustavus Adolphus allowed the Falcons to push across 4 runs in the top of the 4th inning when Katie Thompson, Maddie Studnicka, Ali Murray, and Kamyn Peterson-Rucker all scored to make the game 11-5.

River Falls was able to score the games final run in the top of the 5th inning when Shannan Borchardt picked up her 4th RBI of the season and pushed her average to .462 by doubling in teammate Katie Thompson who scored her 4th run of the season. This run made the score 11-6, and that is how the game would end.

Michelle LaCasse got the start for the Falcons and went 2 innings while giving up 7 runs on 6 hits and taking the loss. Erin Ralph replaced LaCasse in the 3rd inning. She finished out the game going the final 4 innings while allowing 4 runs on 2 hits.

The Falcons will play in another double-header on Friday, March 4th. Game 1 will be against the University of Dubuque with first pitch slated for 4:30 P.M. Game 2 will take place shortly after and will see the Falcons take on Saint Mary's University. These games will be played as part of the ongoing Luther Dome Tournament.
