It was a tale of two halves on Saturday afternoon in UW-Oshkosh with the UW-River Falls taking a lead into halftime, but the dominant Titans of UW-Oshkosh stormed back in the second half to win the contest by a score of 65-50.
The Falcons were consistent in the scoring column, scoring 25 in both halves, but the Titans looked like a totally different team between the two. The first half saw only 19 points for Oshkosh, but they more than made up for it with 46 in the later half.
The game started off great for the UWRF. Katie Messman got three-points the old school way by adding a foul shot after a made jumper. The teams would trade barbs in the first half, but the Falcons pulled away in the last few minutes of the half. With 43 ticks left, Messman hit a three-pointer to give the Falcons a six point lead at the half.
It did not take long for the Titans to take the lead in the second half. Less than six minutes into the half, Katelyn Kuehl hit a jumper for the Titans to give Oshkosh their first lead of the half. Taylor Karge hit a jumper to give the Falcons the lead again, but it was lost in the middle of a huge Titan run. The Karge jumper was lost in a swing where the Titans went on a 16-2 run going from down 31-25 to up 41-33.?
The Titans kept that comfortable lead for the rest of the ballgame. The Falcons trailed by double-digits for the final 5:36 of the game as the Titans cruised to their sixth straight victory over UWRF.
The No. 21 ranked Titans got 13 points from Eliza Campbell who came off the bench. Taylor Schmidt put in 12. The Falcons did not get a single player in double-digits, but were led by a bench player as well as Cassy Saxton scored nine. Karge was right behind with eight points.
Oshkosh improves to 18-3 overall and 10-2 in the WIAC. River Falls falls to 8-13 overall with a 3-9 conference mark.
The Falcons next play on Wednesday as they take on UW-Stout at Karges with tip off set for 7 p.m.
