Softball Team Sweeps Augsburg

Falcons Win, 6-5, 12-1

The Falcon softball team ran its winning streak to six straight with a pair of wins over Augsburg College on Thursday afternoon in the Vadnais Heights Dome.

The Falcons won a close one, 6-5, in the first game, and then won big, 12-1 in five innings, in the second contest.

The Falcons are now 7-1 overall and will next play St. Mary's on March 17 in the Rochester, Minn., Dome.

River Falls 6, Augsburg 5
The Falcons led throughout the game, but Augsburg made it close by scoring two runs in the sixth. UWRF scored six runs on eight hits and made three errors. AC scored five runs on 11 hits and made two errors. The Falcons scored two runs on the first and fifth innings and single runs on the second and third. AC scored twice in the third and sixth innings and one in the fourth.

Hayley Buchanan led off the first with a single to left and Nicole Lubahn reached first on an error. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Amber O'Connell singled to short to score Buchanan, and then Lubahn and O'Connell worked a double steal to score Lubahn. In the second Lily Buckley led off the inning with a solo homer to center. It was her first of the year. The Falcons used the long ball to score a single run in the third. Sarah Bohlen hit a homer to left with two outs to put UWRF ahead, 4-2. It was her third of the year. After AC closed to within 4-3, the Falcons added two runs on the fifth - once again using the long ball. Ashley Goettl hit a two-run homer to right center to score Abbie Morris, who led off the inning with a walk. It was Goettl's first homer of the season.

Morris started on the mound and worked four innings to get the win. She allowed seven hits and three earned runs. She struck out five and walked one. Andrea Krause worked the last three innings to pick up her first save of the year. She allowed four hits and two earned runs. 

Bohlen finished 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI.

River Falls 12, Augsburg 1 (5)
The Falcons banged out a season high 15 hits in the win. UWRF scored 12 runs on 15 hits and made three errors. AC scored one run on four hits and made two errors. UWRF scored three times in the first and twice in the second. They sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth and scored eight runs. AC scored its run in the fifth.

The Falcons hit five doubles and two homers in the game. Morris finished 4-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. She hit a three-run homer to left in the eight-run Falcon fifth. It was her fifth round tripper of the season. Buchanan was 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. She had one of the doubles. Goettl finished 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. She hit her second homer of the day in the first, a two-run shot to left center. Buckley finished 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Abby Veloske was 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Shawna Middleton and Bohlen also had a doubles. 

Brooke Lauritzen started on the mound and picked up the win. She is now 3-0. She allowed just two hits, struck out five and walked one. Lauren Janssen worked the last inning and allowed two hits and one unearned run.
