The Falcon tennis team played in the second and final day of the WIAC Tournament on Sunday at the Neilsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wis.
On Sunday there were two rounds of singles and one round of doubles play.
In singles, at No. 1,
Kelsey Hochberger won her first match over a Stout player, 6-4, 6-0, but she lost the match for fifth place to a La Crosse player, 6-2, 6-1
At No. 2
Makayla Newberry lost to an Oshkosh player, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round.
Hannah Klimek, playing at No. 3, defeated a Stout player, 6-2, 6-1, but then lost to a Stevens Point player for fifth place,
6-2, 6-2.
At No. 4
Kelly Mendel lost to a Stout player in the second round. She lost the first set, 7-5, came back with a 6-2 win in the second set but then lost in the tie breaker third set, 10-7.
At No. 5
Brittany Mohn lost to a Stevens Point player, 6-3, 6-3, in the second round.
Anna Ebensperger played well in two matches. She defeated a Stout player, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round. But she lost to an Oshkosh player in the match for fifth place. She lost the first set, 6-3, but came back to win the second set, 6-1. She lost the third set in a tie breaker, 11-9.
The Falcons had two teams play in the doubles portion of the championships on Sunday.
At No. 1 the team of Hochberger and Newberry lost to a Stevens Point team, 8-1, in the match for fifth place.
The No. 3 team of Mohn and
Kayla Rosenow lost to an Oshkosh team, 8-1, in the match for fifth place.
UWRF finished in sixth place at the Tournament with 14 points. In the final overall WIAC standings the Falcons finished in sixth place with five points.
Rosenow was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team. The All-Sportsmanship team is selected for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
Whitewater won the WIAC Meet with 21 points and they also won the over title with 58 points. The team championship is determined by using a combination of the regular-season dual meet standings and the WIAC championship results.The finish in the regular-season standings accounts for one-third of the criteria, while the conference championship accounts for the remaining two-thirds.
