Softball Team Holds Hit For Lupus Event on Sunday

Falcons Host UW-Platteville at Noon

On Sunday at Ramer Softball Field, the UWRF Falcon softball team will be hosting its third annual “Hit For Lupus” game as they take on the Platteville Pioneers in a doubleheader.

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease of the immune system. An estimated 1.4 million people live with lupus and 90% of those with Lupus are women. Studies show that there are over 16,000 new cases of Lupus annually nationwide.

While they take on the Pioneers, the Falcons will be raising awareness and collecting donations in support of Lupus. T-shirts will be sold at the game for $10 for small, medium, large and extra large or  $12 for double extra large and triple extra large. There will be two designs in different colors. Donations will also be accepted at the game.

Jamie Klein, UWRF pitcher and infielder, has a personal connection to Lupus. Her cousin, Jasmine Klein, age 12, was diagnosed with Lupus. Jamie Klein says, “I have always really enjoyed this event in the past years. This year is extremely special to me though because Jasmine is part of my family.”

Jasmine will be throwing out the first pitch and is honored to be a part of this event, “I am pleased to be able to help support Lupus. I am honored to be throwing out the first pitch! Lucky, I have been in fast pitch softball before so I know what I am doing!”

Come cheer on the Falcons as they Hit For Lupus and take on the Pioneers! The first pitch will be thrown at noon.
