Box Score The women's basketball team's run at the NCAA Tournament came to an end with a 72-61 loss to Coe College in the first round played at St. Thomas.
The Falcons were making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since the 1995 season after earning an at-large berth to the tourney. The Falcons entered the tournament with a 21-6 record. Coe entered at 20-7.
Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) ended her illustrious career with a double-double. She led the Falcons with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Earlier this season, Holst scored her 1,000th career point.
Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona), who also finished her career in a Falcon uniform, added 17 points. During this season, she also reached the 1,000-point milestone.
Coe got off to an early start, leading by as many as four before the Falcons tied it up with 14:43 in the first half. However, Coe would end the half on an 8-0 run to go into halftime leading 32-20.
In the second half, the Falcons would trim away at the Coe lead. Tiffany Greogrich would convert a pair of free-throws to get the Falcons within two with 9:47 to play. But after that, Coe slowly pulled away to end the game up by 11.
Coe was led my Mackenzie Reed and Kayla Waskow who each had 21 points.
As a team, the Falcons were only able to shoot 23.08 percent from the field in the first half. They converted 6-26 shots. While the second half was better, at 33.33 percent, it was still not enough to overcome a well-balanced Coe offense that shot 53.85 percent in the first half and 59.09 percent in the second half.
Along with Greogrich and Holst,
Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City) and
Lauren Pellowski (St. Paul, MN, Tartan) ended their college careers as Falcons. Dohrn added nine rebounds and eight points in her final appearance. Dohrn also had a team-high four blocks. Dohrn will graduate as UWRF's all-time leading rebounder.
Pellowski added six points and an assist in 16 minutes of play.
The Falcons will end their season with a 21-7 record.
