Rasmussen Breaks School Record in 200 as Falcons Place Fourth at Wartburg

The women's track and field team placed fourth out of seven teams at the Wartburg Select.  UWRF finished with 65.50 points.  Host school Wartburg won the meet with 261 total points.

Other WIAC schools included UW-La Crosse who finished second with 177.50 and UW-Platteville who finished fifth with 60 overall points.

Leading the way for UWRF was Alyssa Rasmussen (Delano, MN, Delano).  Rasmussen broke a school record in the 200. She finished first overall with a time of 25.73 to beat the record held previously by teammate Megan Belger (Bloomer, WI, Bloomer), who in 2011 ran the 200 in 25.79.  Rasmussen also finished fourth in the 400, crossing the line in 58.12 seconds.

Katie Rydeen (Osceola, WI, Osceola) also took home the gold for UWRF.  In the 3000 she beat the next best finisher by over three seconds with a time of 10:13.52 to place first overall.

Kayla Hillman (Shell Lake, WI, Shell Lake) was the third Falcon to take home medalist honors.  She did so in the pole vault with a score of 11 2 ½.

In the 800 the Falcons put on a strong showcase.  Brittany Nordland (Pine Island, MN, Pine Island) placed second with a time of 2:19.91.  Teammate Amanda Rothbauer (Colfax, WI, Colfax) placed sixth at 2:20.87.

Kimberly Lueck (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) increased her placing from the prelims to the finals.  In the 60-meter hurdles, she turned in a preliminary time of 9.57 to be seeded fifth for the finals.  In the finals, she had the exact same time, however, that was good enough to place fourth overall.

The 4x400 relay team also finished strong.  The team of Rasmussen, Norland, Rothbauer and Brooke Riches (Plymouth, MN, Armstrong) placed fifth with a time of 4:02.41 to round out the top Falcon performers of the day.

The Falcons will return to action in their home meet, the Brooks Classic.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 and continue on Saturday, Feb. 11 starting at 10 a.m.
