Men's Track and Field Finishes Strong at Wartburg Select

Despite placing fifth out of the five teams competing at the Wartburg Select, the men's track and field team turned in some strong performances.

UW-Platteville won the meet with 188 points.  UWRF had 55.

The Falcons had an impressive showing in the 400.  Paul Schreiner (Maplewood, MN, New Life Academy) finished third with a time of 50.68.  Teammate Mason Albright (Andover, MN, Andover) was right behind him, placing fourth at 50.90.

Scott Jensen (New Prague, MN, New Prague) crossed the finish line in the 800 with a time of 1:59.15.  This placed him third out of 35 competitors.

Also performing well was Scott Bowman (Stoughton, WI, McFarland).  He placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:25.51.

James Butler (Oakdale, MN, Tartan) also placed third, but in the 60-meter hurdles.  His final time of 8.47 was an improvement from his preliminary time of 8.51.

In the high jump, Clai Catto (Menomonie, WI, Menomonie) placed fourth with a score of 6- 4 ¾.  Teammate Jake Weber (Lakeville, MN, Lakeville) also placed fourth, but in the shot put with a score of 46-6 ¼.

The 4x400 team placed fifth out of 15 teams.  The tandem of Albright, Jensen, Schriener and Alex Gilles (Plum City, WI, Plum City) turned in a time of 3:25.95 to round out the strong performances for UWRF.

In addition, on Friday Jared Brandenburg (Independence, WI, Independence) ran a school-record 14:42.21 in the 5,000 at a meet at UW-Whitewater. He placed sixth. "This will be a time to watch after the weekend as it looks to be a good national mark," said Falcon Coach Aaron Decker. He broke the UWRF record by 21 seconds.

Up next for the Falcons is the Brooks Classic held at UW-River Falls.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10.  It will continue on Saturday, Feb. 11 starting at 10 a.m.
