But just 21 seconds later Branden Gay scored to cut the Falcon lead back to one, 5-4. At 18:11 Cardwell put the Falcons back up by two, 6-4, with his seventh goal of the year. He was assisted by Schreiner and Geoff Shewmake. But Stout clawed back to within one, 6-5, when Mike Hartviksen scored with just 19 seconds to play in the period.
