Soccer Team Battles to 1-1 Tie With UWL - Video Added

Cassie Stang scored on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to help the Falcon soccer team to a 1-1 overtime tie with UW-La Crosse in a match played at Ramer Field on Saturday afternoon.

UWL's goal also came by way of a penalty kick. Saskia Taylor scored the goal at 9:55 to give her team a 1-0 lead. But Stang tied the game scoring her team-best ninth goal of the year at 53:46.

UWL outshot the Falcons, 15-10, but shots on goal were even at five apiece. Falcon goalie, Becca Kramer stopped four shots and UWL's Sagan Pizzingrilli also stopped four shots. 

UWL had a 9-3 advantage in shots in the first half and both teams had five second half shots. There were no shots in the first 10-minute overtime and the Falcons had a 2-1 advantage in shots in the second overtime period.

The tie gives the Falcons a 3-2-2 WIAC record. The Falcons have 11 points and are in fourth place, two points ahead of La Crosse and three points ahead of Oshkosh. UWRF has one more WIAC match remaining and can not catch any of the teams ahead of them in the standings. Whitewater is in first place with 18 points while Stevens Point and Eau Claire are tied for second with 15 points. Stevens Point plays at Whitewater later today (Saturday). 

The Falcons have two regular season games remaining. On Monday the Falcons travel to St. Mary's for a 6 p.m., non-conference game. On Saturday the Falcons, 7-6-3 overall, are at Whitewater for a WIAC game that starts at 5 p.m. 

The WIAC playoffs start on Oct. 30 with the third place team hosting the sixth place team and the fourth place team hosting the fifth place team. The semifinals will be Nov. 1 at the site of the first and second place teams. The championship match will be played on Nov. 3 at the site of the highest remaining seeded team.
