Ethan Thomforde and
Chris Palmer will be members of the 2011-12 Falcon men's basketball team according to Head Coach
Jeff Berkhof.
Both players will be eligible at the start of the upcoming season. Thomforde competed for two years at NCAA Div. II Augustana College and Palmer played for two seasons at NCAA Div. III St. Mary's University.
Thomforde, a 6-0 guard, played in 48 collegiate games and averaged 10 minutes of playing time at Augustana. He is from Apple Valley, Minn., and graduated from Eastview High School. He was named to the All-Lake Conference team twice and to the 2008 All-Metro Defensive first team. He played in the Minnesota High School All-Star series.
Palmer, a 6-4 forward, was named to the All-MIAC first team in 2011 after scoring 17.5 points and grabbing 8.8 rebounds a game for the Cardinals. He finished second in scoring and rebounding in the MIAC. Palmer led the MIAC in free throw shooting (143-159, .899) last year including a 21-23 performance that tied a MIAC single game record for three throws made. He scored a career-high 37 points last year in a game against Bethel. He has had 20 double-doubles in his collegiate career. Palmer, who played at Faribault Bethlehem Academy High School and is from Faribault, has played in 49 collegiate games.
The Falcons finished 20-8 last year and earned a berth into the NCAA National Tournament for the first time in school history. UWRF opens its season on Nov. 15 with a game at Viterbo University. The Falcons host the defending NCAA National Champion St. Thomas Tommies on Nov. 22 at the Karges Center, and open WIAC play on Dec. 3 at UW-Platteville.
