Lauren Conrad (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial HS) and forward
Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS)have both been named to the 2011
American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America team.
The team was announced on Thursday at the NCAA Championships banquet in Rochester, N.Y. The team is sponsored by Reebok.
Conrad, a senior, had a great final season for the Falcons. She was the team's top scoring defenseman with eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points. She scored one power-play goal and two game-winners. She played in all 30 games for the Falcons and had five two-point games. Midway through the season she had a season-best six game point streak. In her four year career Conrad finished with 20 goals and 42 assists for 62 points. She played in 115 games and had three power-play, four game-winning and one short-handed goal. She was named to the first All-NCHA team in 2011 and earned honorable mention to the 2010 team. In 2011 she tied for the NCHA lead in points by a defenseman with 14.
"Lauren was one of the most dominant defensemenin the NCHA this year," said Falcon Coach
Joe Cranston. "She has continued to push herself in all four years of college, and has become a tremendous player, and leader, for the Falcons."
Mason led this year's team in scoring as a freshman. She proved she could score and set up her teammates as she had 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points. The 20 goals ties the Falcon individual single season goals record and she set a record for season points with 40. She led theteam with six game-winning goals and two short-handed goals. She also had two power-play goals. She played in all 30 games for the Falcons and was named to the 2011 All-NCHA first and All-Rookie teams. Mason had two four-point games and recorded a hat trick in a 9-0 win over Marian on Feb. 19. She scored at least one point in 20 and the team's 30 games.
"Kait was out leading scorer as a freshman," said Cranston. "She also the school record for most season points. She is just as good defensively as she is offensively. No player has ever come into our program and made as big an impact as Kait."
Conrad and Mason join seven other Falcons who have earned All-American honors at UW-River Falls.
The Falcons finished the year with a 24-2-4 record. The 24 wins is a single season record. The Falcons finished 17-0-3 in NCHA play and won the league's regular season championship. The Falcons were ranked in the Top 10 in the country throughout the 2010-11 season, and spent three weeks as the nation's No. 1 ranked team.
