Falcon Student-Ahtletes to Take Polar Plunge

Event Will be Feb. 26 in Eau Claire

On February 26 UWRF student-athletics will be participating for the first time in the annual WIAC sponsored Polar Plunge in Eau Claire, Wis. This event will benefit Special Olympics in Wisconsin.

The Polar Plunge began in 1999 and has helped raise over $10 million for Special Olympics. Polar Plungers support Special Olympics in Wisconsin by joining a team, raising money and jumping into icy waters throughout Wisconsin.

An exciting new feature was added to the Polar Plunge this year: “Toss your Boss.” If a team donates a minimum of $500, they can toss its head coach or a member of the athletics staff. This extra activity will help maximize proceeds that will be donated, as all proceeds will go directly to Special Olympics. There will also be prizes, music, silent auctions, food specials and costume contests.

All WIAC student-athletes, coaches and administrators are encouraged to partake in this event. Crystal Lanning, UWRF assistant athletic director, says, “We are encouraging all of our UWRF student-athletes and athletics staff members to participate.” Even if they don't want to take the plunge, individuals can still participate by raising money and signing up with the “Too Chicken to Plunge” option.
